choosing paint and accessories for a unwinded look by the water.
Q. I have a seaside cabin on a British Columbia island. I need help choosing wall colours. I have a multicoloured rug in blue and red, but I really like yellows and blues. I would love to incorporate some canvas slipcovers. any advice?
A. Sea-toned colours, like Benjamin Moore’s Icy Morn (457) and White rain (708) are beautiful shades of sea foam green and surf, and could offer a complementary look paired with the reddish tones of the yearn and beamed ceiling. The neutral tones will offer a beautiful backdrop for blue and white ticking slipcovers.
Natural cotton or very pale yellow drapes or roman blinds, instead of your mauve curtains, would offer an instant window makeover and brighten up the room. The neutral colour of the blinds can work with either blue/green walls or off-white walls, and they won’t distract from (or compete with) the stunning colours in your Persian carpet.
To keep your space even much more neutral, paint your walls a creamy pale yellow, such as Benjamin Moore’s Light as a Feather (934), to contrast with the wooden beams. try natural off-white cotton slipcovers and equip with blue and yellow cushions and throws and you’ll have your preferred colours and the slipcovers you wanted to incorporate.
